Description Karl Ferdinand Ebert 2010-05-18 17:01:46 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.4.3)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

Please provide (a) button offering opening certain well defined program for common file types received by a data transfer within chat window.

 Reasoning:
As I assume many people receive pictures as most common data transfer.
Kopete handles this quiet well within ICQ (not Jabber) and offers the user to download this file. I often face then opening gwenview or other programs to see this particular picture. Why not placing (next to the download button) within the chat window a button named gwenview which offers to open this picture immediatly.
Recognizing the file type should be easily and with the new framework of KDE4. I think it would be a pleasure and time saver for many users. Please consider implementing such a nice detail which could cover more data types than videos or pictures of course .

I would be willing to provide a patch if this is considered worthy but lack of time for the next two weeks and deep knowledge in kopete framework would acquire some basic help.

Thanks for your time.

Ferdinand

Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
