Description Sam 2010-05-14 16:45:28 UTC
Version: 4.0 (using KDE 4.4.3)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

To reproduce:

1. Bookmark a bunch of things (varies based on screen size).
2. Click bookmark menu
3. Watch bookmarks consume the entire screen
4. realize the bookmark you want is past the screen

Expected behavior:

A scrolling bookmark list.

I can confirm this here, but this I don't know whether it can be fixed, since it seems like the bookmark menu thingy comes from kdelibs (since Konqueror and Dolphin use the same thing, and they both do not have a scrollable list) → it has to be fixed in kdelibs.

Actually this is a bug/wish for kdelibs.
Luckily KDE SC 4.5 will contain a similar thing to your request.
Comment 4 Panagiotis Papadopoulos 2010-06-05 23:38:27 UTC
The thing I "promised" in my last comment only is valid for Dolphin for now…

Also, rather than marking this as UPSTREAM, we should rather assign this to kdelibs :-P

This is already implemented in bespin, there you have scrollable bookmarks menus in Konqueror and rekonq and also dolphins copy to/move to menus are scrollable, but I would also like to see this as a default for such menus.
Nobody should have a screen full of that: http://imagebin.ca/view/0_cqfhlT.html
(this screenshot is from Dolphin KDE 4.4.95 (KDE 4.5 >= 20100723)).

This wish is also valid for Konsole, and at revision 1183954 (KDE 4.6 >= 20101009) it fills all the screen. So 20 votes from me.

While we are discussing Konqueror bookmark issues, I have 2 myself.

1) If you have a whole bunch of folders of bookmarks, it is very difficult to navigate to the desired folder without accidentally jumping to an unintended folder. I suggest that one should have to click on a folder to enter it. As it is now, a mouse over enters it.

2) I run 2 displays. The other issue I have is that after the first time the bookmarks menu is invoked, it opens in the wrong display. I suspect there is an initialization issue somewhere because it opens in the right display the first time.

$ yum list kdebase
Installed Packages
kdebase.i686 6:4.6.1-3.fc14

I'll log these as new bugs if people don't think they will be dealt with when the whole bookmark menu system is dealt with.

Wow, what an annoying bug. I just noticed about it.

I hope this is fixed soon, and when it is I think the bookmarks button should be shown by default in rekonq (edit the toolbar is not very handy for newbies).

Hi,

kdelibs (version 4 and earlier) is no longer maintained since a few years.

KDE Frameworks 5 or 6 might already have implemented this wish.

If not, please re-open against the matching framework if feasible or against the application that shows the issue.

We then can still dispatch it to the right Bugzilla product or component.

Greetings
