Version: (using KDE 4.4.3) Compiler: gcc 4.4.3/4.5.0 OS: Linux Installed from: Gentoo Packages i have several global shorcuts. Some are std (printscreen for ksnapshot) and some i've added by myself: konsole(scroll lock) or firefox (pause/break). Most of the time, when i click on those keys, nothing happen. I know of a workaround: I go in systemsettins, "azioni di immissione" (something like "input actions"?), then "preset actions". I disabled one of the action (say, printscreen), click on 'apply', then enable it again, then press 'apply' again. Then it is fixed and every shortcut work (not only printscreen). Until next reboot or some time later. It just stop working at some point. The result is that even if i do this workaround very often, most of the time when i press one of those keys, nothing happens. Because of the workaround, i thought some daemon had died. So i did a "pstree <myuser>" before and after the workaround, and compared the result: it was exactly the same. There is one process "kglobalaccel", but i dont know if this is related. At least, it was still there when the shortcuts did not work. I'm currently using kde 4.4.3, but i've had this bug forever. (in kde4, i dont remember about kde3).
I guess it only affects these "uncommon" keys (printscreen, scroll lock and pause/break)?
I'm not sure, but it might be, indeed. For example, control-alt-suppr does work and open the 'quit dialog' as expected. Also, things like alt-tab or control-tab do work too, i dont know if this is what you mean.
The bug is still there with kde sc 4.7.0 The workaround still works, too.
The bug is still there with kde sc 4.7.2 The workaround still works, too.
Global shortcuts for knotes and klipper never worked for me in kde4. The turnaround suggested here does not work either
(In reply to comment #5) > Global shortcuts for knotes and klipper never worked for me in kde4. Those are different bugs. I'm sure they are fixed after KDE SC 4.8
