Version: (using KDE 4.4.3) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages When I connect to my computer over "ssh -X <IP>" I can start almost every graphical application. But when a module requires root privileges kdesu pops up. I enter the password but then nothing is displayed afterwards. Isn't it possible to show a root-privileged window under the current remote X session which is owned by a normal user?
it's likely to be related to the (missing) d-bus session or something like that. did you try to run some simple, non-kde programs through kdesu?
ping?
My ssh works with "xmessage test" and the window pops up on my remote machine running X (Mac Book with XQuartz). Maybe it's a fault of XQuartz but why are simple X clients work with ssh -X and KDE applications don't? Seems really like a missing dbus issue or somthing other KDE specific. I can remember that this worked fine with ssh -X when executing this command rom another KDE (Kubuntu in my case) machine. Isn't there someone who has the knowledge of debugging this special bug?
Please move this bug to a general KDE problem with networking and accessing KDE with remote X configurations. Thanks.
