Description Johannes K. 2010-05-09 11:07:29 UTC
This bug appears again in kde-4.4.2 on my kubuntu-10.4.

+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #162792 +++

Version:           0.50.1 (using 4.0.4 (KDE 4.0.4 >= 20080505) "release 11", compiled sources)
Compiler:          gcc
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.25.3-2-pae

Using KDE 4.0.4 on opensuse 11.0 Beta 3

After giving the password for KWallet, kopete directly tries to connect to e.g. MSN. Not always, but mostly this fails (popup window asking for MSN's password). KWallet is still starting and has not given the passwords yet.

I can confirm this.

I can confirm this on kde 4.4.3, sometimes happens..

Hi,
I can confirm this behaviour in 4.4.2 (Kubuntu 10.04). More specifically, the account-specific password dialogs appears after letting some time unanswered the kdewallet initial login dialog. It's like there were some kind of timeout in Kopete so, if the user doesn't answer to the kdewallet dialog in a given amount of time, then Kopete simply asks for the passwords itself.

In my case, it happens for my two current Kopete accounts, an MSN one and a GTalk (Jabber) one, so it doesn't look protocol-specific.

It's really annoying, as you end up filling up 3 password dialogs, the kdewallet's initial one and the two account specific ones.

More on this:
This is really a 4.4 specific issue, as it wasn't happening in 4.3. I detected it firstly after upgrading to 4.4 in Gentoo (sorry for not reporting - my bad :( ).

I'm not using Gentoo anymore, but from what I can recall, I can confirm the following combinations:

  - Gentoo KDE 4.3: works fine
  - Gentoo KDE 4.4: bug
  - OpenSUSE 11.2 (4.3): works fine
  - OpenSUSE 11.2 (Factory -> 4.4): bug
  - Kubuntu 10.04 (4.4): bug

With Archlinux KDE 4.4.3 I use Kopete with 7 different messenger accounts. When not entering the kwallet master password fast enough, Kopete pops up with password entry dialogs for every single connecting. When cancelling every one of them and eventually supplying the kwallet master passwort, on a global connect, Kopete will connect too all messenger services EXCEPT FOR MSN. It will always ask me again seperately for this specific connection password, even though it's safed in kwallet.

I can confirm this since KE SC 4.x series. Even on 4.5 RC1 has the same bug what is one kind show stopper for kopete + kwallet combination.

Kopete should not try to connect until it gets the password from Kwallet
