Description S 2010-05-07 05:04:21 UTC
Version: 1.0.0 (using KDE 4.4.3)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Hi everyone, sorry I don't know how to report more detailed log information, but I can't send files via my Google (jabber) account via Kopete to a user who is running Pidgin. Previously from Pidgin to Pidgin to this same user file transfer worked perfectly. Any ideas? Is this known to work or not work on Kopete? Thanks a lot!

Hi, additional testing revealed the following:

1. I'm running KDE 4.4.2, not 4.4.3. Sorry!

2. I changed the file transfer server to proxy.eu.jabber.org , same as Pidgin's default jabber file transfer proxy, and now file transfers work. This server should be used by default in Kopete as well so that this works out of the box as it does it Pidgin.

3. Unfortunately, file transfers over the local network don't work right between Kopete and Pidgin. I often chat with local network users over Google Talk XMPP using Pidgin, and it automatically figures out that they are on the local network and the file transfers are extremely fast because they're local. However, when I initiate the file transfer from Kopete to Pidgin, it transfers very slowly over the internet despite that I am sending to a LAN user. However, if I send from Pidgin to Kopete, the file goes instantly over the LAN. I have found that if I set the "Public IP address" on the Kopete "File transfers" tab, it will do local network transfers. However, I can't change my IP on Kopete every time DHCP gives me a new address. Is there any way to make Kopete to detect the IP address automatically as Pidgin does?

Thanks for the help!

Hi guys, can we please confirm this bug?

As for changing the file transfer proxy to proxy.eu.jabber.org, it's broken again now and I can't send files.

I assume that this bug is no longer relevant considering how much Google's chat service has changed since the bug was opened. Unfortunately, I haven't used Kopete in the past few years, so I can't verify one way or the other.
