Description Don Jessup 2010-05-04 18:01:25 UTC
Version: ubuntu 10.04 (using KDE 4.4.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Installed fresh Ubuntu 10.04 and it worked fine and then changed to KDE within the program and now when I start up I have a login screen and then a black screen. Is there someway to get my video back? Card is an ATI Radeo HD300 Graphics on the motherboard. Asus board with AMD CPU. Have tried reinstalling, but still end up with same problem. Tried installing on a separate drive and same problem. Tried installing Ubuntu within windows and same problem. Help!

Have started up in recovery mode and same problem. Tried low res and same problem.

this is most likely a bug in the video driver or incapability of your GPU (i'm not sure whether you mean to have installed Ubuntu using the windows program or in a virtual machine) and means that you cannot use composting (at least at your current resolution)

press "shift+alt+f12", you should see the desktop.
open a window and right click on the titlebar to "configure window behaviour..."
uncheck "enable compositing", then apply.

if you're _not_ on a virtual machine and want opengl compositing, you might be lucky with changing the driver (try "radeon" or "radeonhd" instead of "fglrx" or vice versa)

you can also try the XRender backend (to be found in the advanced tab)

It is also possible that plasma is not running or not installed. So please try alt+f2 and type in "plasma-desktop" to get the desktop back. In case it is not working please ensure that plasma is installed at all.

Anyway this is either a distribution issue or a driver issue. It is not related to kwin, so I set to INVALID.
