Description bob gross 2010-05-03 20:33:49 UTC
Version: 1.4 (using 4.4.2 (KDE 4.4.2), PCLinuxOS release 2010 (PCLinuxOS) for i586)
Compiler: gcc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.32.11-pclos2.bfs

When navigating to a NAS running samba, then trying to play an mp3 file, amarok goes dumb, will not play, and dolphin cpu usage pegs out at 100%, cripling the computer.. The only way to recover is to Konsole, PS UX, and kill offending dolphin process. In either event, the music never plays, unless copied to local disk first.

Note: NAS (FREENAS) seems to operate properly and is accessible by any windows machine, or PClinuxOS 2009 to stream media files.

Thanks for attention.

Thanks for the report! I have a few questions to determine the root cause:
- Do you have Nepomuk/Strigi enabled in your system (see systemsettings)?
- Do you have enabled the "Information Panel" in Dolphin?
- Do you have enabled "tooltips" in Dolphin?

Peter,

More information...

The tooltips is not enabled.

The Dolphin Information panel is displayed. I closed it and still no streaming music.

Today, the "Samba shares" was visible using the NETWORK link on the left side of the Dolphin window. Navigating is ok but...no streaming music. Accessing other files like jpgs is ok.

Yesterday the NAS and all network components (Network, Network Services, Samba Shares, Add Network Folder) were missing from the NETWORK link, and I got an error message suggesting a firewall might be blocking them. I don't understand this.

Still no music, however, if I navigate to my NAS via ROOT/MNT/.... then Dolphin will stream music to the information panel, and AMAROK...OK!

" Do you have Nepomuk/Strigi enabled in your system (see systemsettings)?" Sorry I can't find this item, need more help locating it!

Warmest regards,

Bob Gross

Samba support has improved a lot in the last eight years. I never experienced this issue myself. Unless you can still reproduce it, I'll close this bug soon.

No response -> closing. Please reopen if you can still reproduce this behavior with the newest version of Dolphin.
