Description Michal Vyskocil 2010-04-19 11:35:28 UTC
Version: 4.72svn1115104 (using Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources

Akonadi opened the 86 error message boxes with messages like

There is currently no connection to the IMAP server.

Could not test the capabilities supported by the IMAP server imap.suse.de:993.

which efectivelly spams my taskbar (don't have a grouping enabled by default). It really needs to be improved.

Looks this was mis-filed under kst

This seems to be a duplicate of bug 222595.

I also hate these error messages... Why not to show them via knotify?

49 error notifications from akonadi

OK. I have akonadi configured to check mail every 30 minutes and about 10 mailboxes on different servers. When there is a network problem, and akonadi can't connect to servers it starts flooding my desktop with error notifications. Just imagine how many windows it can open if I leave it for 8 hours with no network :)
Comment 8 András Manţia 2011-09-22 06:20:09 UTC
For POP3 this is fixed. I didn't see the message box flood for imap.
Comment 9 Magnus Holmgren 2012-06-23 11:59:33 UTC
Problem persists for med with KDE 4.8.3. Usually a Gmail account is involved, but it's particularily annoying when I login, KMail is started as part of my session, and Akonadi apparently complains because I haven't had a chance to unlock my KWallet yet. That results in over a hundred message boxes and makes the entire desktop unresponsive for several minutes, even on a computer with an Intel Core i7 and 16 GiB of RAM.
Comment 10 Leszek Lesner 2012-07-25 14:44:09 UTC
I can confirm this.
Maybe it would be nice to make akonadi solid network aware. I think this should fix those kinds of problems.
So if the Desktop starts, akonadi should first check if solid says there is a network connection or not. If not then it should not through any error in my opionion and should disable imap/pop akonadi services (or simply stop them) and only start them as soon as kmail is started and if network isn't available then, kmail should through an error message (not akonadi)

I get a lot of error messages in KDE notification tray, if Akonadi synchronizes DAV resources. As far I can see, the errors are not really important.
Comment 12 David Faure 2014-01-20 12:35:07 UTC
Theory: the message flood happens with IMAP only when the checkbox "Enable disconnected mode" is NOT checked.
Please confirm/deny :)

At least I never saw it, with disconnected mode enabled.

Same here, all sorts of messages racing by so fast i can barely read them, "mailbox doesn't exist", "could not create resource collection" and several others. every time it syncs and imap account.

This bug has only been reported for versions older than KDEPIM 4.14 (at most akonadi-1.3). Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a recent version of akonadi (part of KDE Applications 15.08 or later), it gets closed in about three months.
Comment 15 Denis Kurz 2017-01-07 22:50:32 UTC
Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
