Application that crashed: digikam
Version of the application: 1.0.0-beta5
KDE Version: 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2)
Qt Version: 4.5.2
Operating System: Linux 2.6.31-20-generic i686
Distribution: Ubuntu 9.10

What I was doing when the application crashed:
Linking to Powershot A570 is successful and images are displayed, however when "download" is selecting the application crashes. This happens every time.

use last digiKam 1.2.0 instead old 1.0.0-beta5

I'm using the current stable package I believe. I don't see any other package 
alternatives in the main repositories.

The problem is that ubuntu only delivers such an old version. You can get a more recent one using the backports or a ppa. Just google for it. You will find enough information how to use them.
