Description tgp1994 2010-04-15 06:08:45 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Hi there. After attempting to copy a zip file from the folder shortcut viewer (?? It's the button with the folder with a start on it...) KDE seemed to make a big deal about it, crashing to a black screen with only my cursor, then slowly loading back up. ANYhow, the Collecting Problem Information window has been up for about an hour now, doing whatever it is a window of this sorts does, and doesn't show any sign of going away soon.

I hope this bug can be fixed soon, whatever its cause.

(Sorry I couldn't give any more helpful information, if someone knows of a log file I can upload, I'm all for it...)

Do you exactly remember the look of that "Collecting Problem Information" window ?

KDE has a crash handler dialog which appears in those cases, however, it needs user interaction to start "collecting the problem information" (and it only generates a "backtrace") ... so.. may be you were getting a different dialog/window (I do not recognize the string "Collecting Problem Information" being part of the KDE crash handler)

Well, I'm pretty sure that was just the window title I was describing. It was at the point where it was actually collecting the information, with the bar going back and forth.

If it was the KDE Crash Handler you had to click the "Backtrace"/"Developers Information" tab, or click the "Report Bug" option to enable the report assistant... If you didn't do that, then it could be a Ubuntu addon...

Know any in particular that I could be describing? Perhaps it should then be labelled as a conflict with kde4.

Mh, a Google search shows that this is a Ubuntu addon (named "Apport").
Please report to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport

Well, hold on a second there, lets not jump to conclusions ;)

There's one apport-kde package... what of that?
Comment 7 Dario Andres 2010-04-17 03:31:43 UTC
Yes.. it is related to Apport or Apport-kde; both are part of the same solution/software (part of the Ubuntu releases)

May be the place for reporting bugs against it is not https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport ...
@Jonathan: do you know where these bugs should be reported ?
Comment 8 Jonathan Thomas 2010-04-17 03:33:05 UTC
Yes, that is the most appropriate package to report it against.

Alright, so I'm in the green? Tell me how the fixing goes :) If any info is needed, I'm have answers.

Create a report at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport and you will be asked for more information. Thanks
