Version: 1.3.0 (using KDE 4.4.2) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages I always use wikimapia.org. I think that it is much easier than maps.google.com. Now we can observe the image on the map, it uses google maps. It would be nice to add wikimapia.org.
As far as I can tell, wikimapia's API only allows reverse geocoding, but not displaying custom markers on the map: http://blog.wikimapia.org/node/19 Therefore, we could currently only use it as a reverse geocoding backend. You also need a key to use it, and I could not yet figure out whether this key will be bound to a certain URL, like the Google Maps V2 API key. These things need to be known before someone can write a backend for it, be it reverse geocoding or image display. Michael
We need more information about WikiMapias API before we can do anything here. Michael
Following wikipedia project description Wikimapia.org is dead. "Since 2018, following years of declining popularity, the site has gone nearly inactive with the site's owners having been unable to pay for the usage of Google Maps and the site's social media accounts having remained derelict. A study from 2017 remarked that the site's popularity was in decline." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikimapia I close this file now. Gilles Caulier
