Description Unknown 2010-04-04 15:03:45 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.4.2)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

I have tried to change the Global shortcut for "Activate kicker" and it works for that particular session but then forgets this setting in the next session and reverts back to the default shortcut.
Comment 1 Michael Jansen 2010-04-11 01:23:30 UTC
"Activate kicker" ??? Which app/shortcut is that?

We are talking kde 4 here?
Comment 2 Unknown 2010-04-11 02:36:50 UTC
Well, the button to bring up the KDE menu (usually called the "kicker"). I think it's ALT+F1 by default. I changed it and it reverted back to default after restart.
Comment 3 Michael Jansen 2010-04-11 20:23:14 UTC
So we are talking "Plasma Workspace" -> "Activate Application Launcher Widget" here? (execute "kcmshell4 keys" from a shell").

How did you change it? In "systemsettings" -> "keyboard & mouse" -> "Global Shortcuts" (same as the command above). Or from "Application Launcher Settings" (right click on the menu button).

If i should fix that bug for you, you have to give more and exact information what you did. If not i only can ignore this bug because i have no idea what you did and how to reproduce. Just saying xyz doesn't work won't help me help you.

1. Make a copy of ~/.kde/share/config/kglobalshortcutsrc as kglobalshortsrc.1
2. Change the shortcut and tell me exactly how you did it.
3. Make a copy of ~/.kde/share/config/kglobalshortcutsrc as kglobalshortsrc.2
4. Relogin.
5. If the shortcut change is gone again Make a copy of ~/.kde/share/config/kglobalshortcutsrc as kglobalshortsrc.3
6. Send all three files to me: kde (at) michael-jansen.biz

Keep cool. I'm just trying to help here myself. I'm talking about changing the shortcut at:

System Settings --> Keyboard & Mouse --> Global Keyboard Shortcuts --> Component Plasma Workspace --> Activate Application Launcher Widget.

I will attach all three required files here in a minute.
Comment 5 Unknown 2010-04-11 20:52:45 UTC
OK, here it is: the diff is simply:

20:50 % diff kglobalshortcutsrc.1 kglobalshortcutsrc.2 ~
242c242
< activate widget 5=Alt+F1,Alt+F1,Activate Application Launcher Widget
---
> activate widget 5=Meta+Space,Alt+F1,Activate Application Launcher Widget
20:50 % diff kglobalshortcutsrc.1 kglobalshortcutsrc.3
20:50 % diff kglobalshortcutsrc.2 kglobalshortcutsrc.3
242c242
< activate widget 5=Meta+Space,Alt+F1,Activate Application Launcher Widget
---
> activate widget 5=Alt+F1,Alt+F1,Activate Application Launcher Widget

But I will attach the three files here as well for convenience.

I can confirm this bug. I tried to change the shortcut for summoning Klipper's history menu from ctrl+alt+v to meta+v. It stuck around for as long as my present session, but when I logged out and in again, it was back to ctrl+alt+v.

It happens that ctrl+alt+v is *also* the shortcut for "scroll other window" in emacs, which I use. So this bug is rather inconvenient.

I am still seeing this in 4.6.0 on opensuse 11.4.

You have to change/remove the shortcut in Plasma, otherwise it will get added on every reboot.

For example to change the Klipper shortcut:
Right-click system tray expander arrow > System Tray Settings > Entries

I don't understand why this bug is marked resolved as invalid. The bug is that you can disable a keyboard shortcut in systems settings, and it is restored after a restart. Comment 12 is the workaround that if you also disable it in the system tray settings, then things will work as designed.

That is a workaround and not a solution. The solution would be to make system settings behave as expected.

That said, thanks for the workaround. Maybe now I won't have to reset my shortcut every time I restart kded, something I have to do relatively frequently.
