Description Janet 2010-03-31 13:41:39 UTC
Version: 4.4.1 (using KDE 4.4.1)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Usually I hide the left pane with the addressbooks to have a wide middle pane with name, birthday, telefonnumbers and emails all visible in one row plus the right information pane. When I unhide the left pane the middle one shrinks and gets a horizontal scrollbar. That's ok.

But, and here comes the bug, at the same the information shown in the middle pane is cut, so not all information is reachable with the scrollbar anymore. In my case it's the email address which isn't shown in full length anymore. Instead dots are shown.

Luckily the original view is recovered when I hide the left pane again.

Hej,

you can use the handle in the header of the list view to rearrange the columns,
so I can't see any bug here. Every application that uses multicolumn list views
behave this way...

Tobias

No, not every application behaves like that. When there is a horizontal scrollbar, it should reach also the end of the row without cutting the row.

You are right, it is possible to find a size for the two modes where everything is shown in three pane mode and no scrollbar is shown in two pane mode. It just takes some time and is just a lot fiddling here and there and back and forth. It is just not obvious that the two views are treated separately.

But alas the point is, that I have to do it *every time* again I start kaddressbook, the information about the column width is not stored for the second view. I have the correct width in two pane mode after a restart but the loss of information in three pane mode is even bigger after I have now touched the layout once.

Maybe it helps when I show some screenshots. When you still say that is normal and desired behaviour I have to accept it though in my eyes it nonetheless is a bug.

This is how it looks in temporary three pane mode.

See the scrollbar? It's at the end - and nonetheless not all information available is shown (compared to two pane mode). As soon as I open the addressbook list and scroll to the end of the contacts list to see the email addresses I cannot see the whole addresses anymore though the scrollbar has reached its very end. As soon as I close the addressbook list the addresses a whole again.

The loss of information is even bigger and no scrollbar appears.

after dragging the left pane a little wider the scrollbar finally appears

and even more information is cut, nothing from the email address is left. Everything is fine again when I minimize the left pane to zero.

Shouldn't both layout modes be saved? I "simply" expect that the scrollbar in temporary three pane mode scrolls up to end of the information which is shown in two pane mode - and that once the user has configured both layouts the layouts stay as they are until the user changes them again.
