Description dc 2010-03-31 13:27:20 UTC
Version: 1.13.2 (using 4.4.2 (KDE 4.4.2), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler: cc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.32-18-generic

Kmail is wiping out *any* previous configuration at each release !!!

- The layout is restored to standard
- Bogofilter is no longer recognized
- toolbar is set to minimum
- etc.

In three occasions, all my contacts were gone... This is becoming a real issue.

This is no crash. Does the deletion happen with each minor release? 4.4.1 to 4.4.2?
Or with major releases? 4.3 to 4.4 i.e.?

It happened on any release sinec ~1 year... Basically, all settings are reset. I have been experiencing this like twice a month in a year. Guess how upset I'm... What could make kmail decide that it needs a fresh config ? Why not asking the question before reseting everything ? Why not creating a backup if some settings are bizarre ?

Also, a "save config" in a safe place would be more than welcome (for settings and kontacts).

Add this problem to the akonadi/kontact problem and you'd realize that kmail is becoming so painful that it requires more than rage and passion to keep using it. After 10 years of kmail use, witnessing its quality going down everyday, I'm about to give up...

I know how much work and effort you are putting in KDE/Kmail, but there are some basic standards which are not respected. I'd like to help you as much as you'd like but I don't know how I can do it...

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2.

We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
