Description Silver Salonen 2010-03-30 21:16:24 UTC
Version: 1.13.2 (using KDE 4.4.1)
Installed from: openSUSE RPMs

I have added my GMail IMAP-account into KMail. Sometimes when I try to search from there (Inbox+subfolders), KMail reports: "Error while searching. Searching of folder INBOX failed. The server returned: Could not parse command".
After that I have occasional reports of the same thing.

I don't think it's GMail's fault, because my wife uses her account on the same computer, but in Thunderbird and she never has any problems there, whereas I have multiple with KMail.

this happens to me too with KMail 1.13.5, KDE 4.5.2.

it started happening after i tried to do a full search in my "Gmail/inbox", matching where "All Recipients" contained a literal string. that search triggered this error for the first time.

the error subsequently appears upon opening unread messages in the inbox, upon marking messages as new, and sometimes upon opening folders. sometimes it appears twice in a row. restarting kmail does not fix it. something else eventually does, but i can't figure out what.

i can reproduce this behavior every time i use the aforementioned type of search query. searching on "Complete Message", Subject, From, To, and CC does not trigger this behavior.

Same here in KMail 1.13.5 on KDE 4.5.1. It started out of the blue a few days ago.

Hoo boy. I didn't change a thing (same config, no upgrade, not even a reboot) and now it works again, after misbehaving for a few days. Odd.

is your search against "All Recipients"? many of the other target fields have always worked for me, but "All Recipients" still fails.

@5: Ah ah, indeed, searching against "All Recipients" triggers the bug again.

Also, the error message seems to open even when I'm reading individual messages in any GMail folder, so long as the search is still active. Strange.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2.

We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
