Description akm 2010-03-30 20:28:27 UTC
Version:           1.91.0 (using 4.3.5 (KDE 4.3.5) "release 0", openSUSE 11.2)
Compiler:          gcc
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop

I have a LG DVD burner verion HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22LS50 one a new PC which burns at 16x under winxp but under k3b it reaches speeds of 0.22 to 0.50 at max, info from /sbin/hdparm -i /dev/sr0

/dev/sr0:

 Model=HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22LS50, FwRev=TL02, SerialNo=K159C1L0536
 Config={ Fixed Removeable DTR<=5Mbs DTR>10Mbs nonMagnetic }
 RawCHS=0/0/0, TrkSize=0, SectSize=0, ECCbytes=0
 BuffType=unknown, BuffSize=unknown, MaxMultSect=0
 (maybe): CurCHS=0/0/0, CurSects=0, LBA=yes, LBAsects=0
 IORDY=on/off, tPIO={min:120,w/IORDY:120}, tDMA={min:120,rec:120}
 PIO modes:  pio0 pio3 pio4
 DMA modes:  mdma0 mdma1 mdma2
 UDMA modes: udma0 udma1 udma2 udma3 udma4 *udma5
 AdvancedPM=no
 Drive conforms to: unknown:  ATA/ATAPI-3,4,5,6,7

 * signifies the current active mode

during burning the buffer fluctuates a lot from full to almost empty

After posting this I remembered the BIOS option IDE/AHCI, so I changed SATA mode from AHCI to IDE and low and behold burning speed is up to 11x, so I guess I will leave it at that, unclear now to me if its a bios issue, linux kernel issue or k3b though

Same problem on openSUSE 11.2 for x86_64. Used to burn DVD isos at 4x very quickly. Now - at 0.11x ...
