Description Rafał Rzepecki 2010-03-30 00:19:04 UTC
Version:            (using 4.4.69 (KDE 4.4.69 (KDE 4.5 >= 20100324)), compiled sources)
Compiler:          gcc
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.30-gentoo-r8

(This is a bugreport for the 'Removable Media' kcmodule, but I couldn't find it on the list; I don't think there's a bugzilla module for it. Please refile as appropriate.)

Language of the options of 'Removable Media' kcmodule is very confusing, and tooltips don't clear any of that confusion. It isn't clear how the various options interact.

For example, the first suboption is 'Only automatically mount removable media that has been manually mounted before', then the second is 'Mount all removable media at login'. Does 'all' include those that haven't been manually mounted before? What about those that aren't checked in the table below as 'automount on login'?

If this works as I think it does, I'd suggest at least changing second option to 'Enable mounting on login' and the third to 'Enable mounting on attachment' (but I'm no usability expert). Tooltips should be more clear on that too. But this whole dialog seems hard to get right, some cursory usability study would be very useful here (or, even better, redesign from scratch by a usability expert, or perhaps just anyone not involved with the code).
