Description 9bv1tu2a 2010-03-24 03:40:14 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.4.1)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

I do not know what part of KDE wants ownership of this report. Please assign at your option. This bug has been around for at least 4 years and I do not know which is the current bug.

Just loaded KDE4.4 fresh, then an upgraded to KDE4.4.1 through Linux Mint KDE CE 8.

When using SU (kdesudo konqueror / dolphin) in Konqueror and Dolphin the title message appears. No files are displayed in the app. The user mode works fine in both apps. This is reproducible.

I ran the sudo command in a terminal and I captured a lot of info. It is gobblygook to me but it may help someone. I cannot see so far anyway to attach a file.

command line start by user of dolphin file manager

This file shows the text produced by a normal command line start of dolphin by a user.

command line start of dolphin by SU

This is the text produced by the 'file protocol died . . .' message. It is dolphin started and stopped. When I closed dolphin, the terminal did not return to the command line prompt.

command line text from a crashed konqueror run as SU

This is to show that both dolphin and konqueror suffered the same fate.

- Do they work if you launch them as "sudo dbus-launch dolphin" ?

Thank You for the quick reply and the suggestion.

I can confirm that both dolphin and konqueror open, display files and run properly as SU with NO crashes when using your suggestion.

How can I make this more permanent or am I pushing my luck?

Added information

I added your suggestion to an icon application command line but both konqueror and dolphin crashed.

The file icons displayed, no error message shown, but whenever I tried to change directories they crashed. Locked up tighter than a drum.

I used "kdesudo dbus-launch dolphin" (and . . . konqueror)

Hope this helps.

"kdesu dolphin" works well for me in KDE SC 4.8 beta1.
