Version: (using KDE 4.4.1) This bug has been copied over from http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=545746 and has been verified to still exist in KDE SC 4.4.1 ---- Localized manpages contain HTML entities (those begining with & and ending with ;) instead of non-ascii symbols. Given that Ukrainian language uses non-ascii symbols a lot, it is not possible to read such manpages (at least for normal humans). Those characters should be encoded in UTF-8 or whatever is now supported by mandb.
Apparently, this is not limited to uk, but also happens with ru.
Please see http://lists.kde.org/?t=126613958500001&r=1&w=2 It happens in any language with non-ISO-8859-1 symbols. Fix requires patching from [1] + bootstrap rebuild of all docs for the new version. Can I commit the fix at least in trunk? [1] http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-i18n-doc&m=126631779417120&w=2
There was never a "no" in that thread so if you're willing to fix anything your change might fix, go ahead.
Ok, I commited rev. 1104861 (trunk) and 1104867 (branch). :) To solve the problem one have to recompile kde-l10n-<langcode> packages on a system with the new kdoctools from SVN.
