I might have found it? I found in a few of the subdirs in the Local Folders, a number of e-mails that had (Unknown) in the info for subject, sender and date. Basically a number of just blank e-mails with no info in them at all. I deleted these e-mails by hand, and now kmail doesn't seem to be crashing. At least the past hour or so now. I think that for some of the subdirs when they tried to expire these e-mails and move them to trash, this would crash kmail. At least that is the theory. Finding and deleting these empty e-mails by hand seems to have "fixed" the problem of the crashing kmail.
