Description Thomas Zell 2010-03-06 15:19:57 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.4.1)
OS: Linux
Installed from: openSUSE RPMs

Originally I thought this would be covered by bug 199735, but this does not seem to be the case.

I am using the following settings:
- "focus follows mouse"
- several virtual desktops
- translucency enabled for window decoration
- Oxygen windeco

1) Whenever I switch to another virtual desktop and click into a window, the window decoration (partially) disappears or is corrupted.

2) This also happens if I move a window to a different desktop while staying on the same desktop all the time and then click into a window.

I strongly believe this is related to bug 202818, which is triggered under the exact same conditions, but in this case parts of the entire window disappear.

I have two machines with completely different graphics hardware (desktop pc with NVidia card and notebook with integrated Intel chipset). The problem occurs on both machines in exactly the same way.

(see attached screenshot)

Thanks for the screenshot. That shows that it is not a duplicate of 199735, such an issue I have never seen before.

I have a question to that "translucency enabled for window decoration": where and how have you enabled the translucency. I cannot see any additional translucency in your screenshot.
Comment 3 Thomas Lübking 2010-03-06 17:01:05 UTC
i guess when moving.
may it be some plugin clips regardless of the current desktop?

@thomas:
what happens is you disable all plugins?
is it maybe related to a desktop switching plugin or "slide back" (seems to clip windows a lot)
Comment 4 Thomas Zell 2010-03-06 17:55:56 UTC
- disabling the "translucency" plugin fixes it (as far as I can tell)
- moving the "decoration" slider in the translucency plugin settings to "opaque" seems to improve things, but they are not perfect

By "translucency enabled for window decoration" I mean that the "decoration" slider in the translucency plugin is set to any value other than "opaque".

thanks for testing it out. I thought that this might be the problem and I have a rough idea where to look for the bug and how to fix it :-)

I have exactly the same artifacts as in the screenshot, and I too have a transparent decoration. Now I have disabled it and so far no artifacts.

Hi there!

I'm also seeing this bug. I have a Dell Vostro 1400 with an Intel GM965 video card and Fedora 13 installed. Whenever i switch virtual desktops and click on a window I get a repaint on the window, like as it disappears and then appears again. Sometimes it gets corrupted.

I could not get a screenshot because it seems to cause a window repainting and then the problem goes out.

I'm running KDE 4.5 beta 1 from kde-unstable Fedora repositories. I've seen a bug like this on 4.4 only with konsole or on any other application after a heavy workload.

I disabled the transparency plugin but the problem persists. I also put all options to "opaque", but no way to solve the problem.

Then i disabled every single plugin to find out that the blur effect is causing the bad behavior. Now it's disabled. As said I have an Intel GM965 and i have this bug also https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=239890. Maybe it's related.

Thank you.

Upgraded to 4.5 and it's still there. However, exactly as in bug 202818 it is now only triggered when click on the decoration.

In my case it was the 'blur' and 'slide back' plugins that made troubles...
Blur made the whole window disappear and then repaint itself piece by piece (sloooowly, very annoying) - this bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=243890 and when I disabled it - only decorations started to disappear... Disabling 'slide back' plugin seems to fix the problem...

I wonder if those are related and have some other more severe reason that it happens...

OpenSuSE 11.2 and 11.3
KDE 4.5.1
Nvidia and Intel

is this still an issue with 4.6/master? I just tried to reproduce and cannot see the issue.
Comment 12 Edney Matias 2011-03-20 14:26:48 UTC
Hi there.

I'm running fedora 15 alpha with kde sc 4.6.1 and this is happening to me https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=688710. Maybe it's related.

Regarding to repaitings on windows I didn't noted anymore.

Regards.

No this is completely unrelated
Comment 14 Thomas Zell 2011-03-20 14:45:39 UTC
I cannot reproduce it anymore either.
Comment 15 Martin Flöser 2011-03-20 14:51:20 UTC
assuming it is fixed - thanks for the quick reply.
