Version: (using KDE 4.4.1) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages This proposal is to make a relatively trivial change to enable kcalc to run in 'simple' mode with only standard simple calculator buttons present. It would also have a toggle button to turn on/off scientific mode. Currently KDE SC has no simple calculator app at all. Whilst Kcalc is presented as a scientific calculator, it is also presented as a simple calculator and is an integral part of KDE SC. Many 'casual' or non-scientific KDE SC users require a simple calculator, and can be confused when faced with a scientific calculator, and it also takes up more screen space than their limited usage requires. It is true that Krunner has a calculator facility, and that there is at least one simple calculator plasma widget. However, these are not discoverable from the app menu as they are not standard apps and a casual user is far more likely to come across Kcal when seeking a calculator.

I hope you enjoy the fix. KCalk now has "modes", which currently supports just the well known button sets. One of them is a simple mode. This is not as simple as it could be, but stay tuned :-) Eike
