Description Vangelis 2010-02-24 23:15:01 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.4.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

It`s quite frequent that my whole desktop crashes (not just plasma-desktop) when I`m clicking on different open programs (from the taskbar or directly on the window of the app) so the focus is changing between them. After this weird crash, my screen goes black (on the terminal) and KDM get reloaded so I need to put my username/pass to login again. The bug report window doesn`t have the opportunity to come up as it`s a total crash of the desktop environment.
This phenomenon is more frequent when I have any wine application opened.

- Are you using Desktop Effects ? Regards
Comment 2 Vangelis 2010-02-25 09:19:41 UTC
Yes, I`m using them.

This is very likely X.Org crash. Check your /var/log/X* logs.
Comment 4 Vangelis 2010-02-25 13:38:15 UTC
That`s the backtrace in my /var/log/Xorg.0.log exactly after the crash....
Does anyone have a suggestion of which package (dbg package?) should I download to get a better backtrace of the crash?
It is happening quite frequently so I guess that I`ll have many opportunities to get a more helpful one.

not me, but regardless, this is not a kde bug. please report to xorg.
Comment 6 Lubos Lunak 2010-02-25 15:12:59 UTC
Actually, this is with the closed-source nvidia driver, so only nvidia can handle this.
Comment 7 Vangelis 2010-02-25 15:16:48 UTC
I have just installed xserver-xorg-core-dbg and I`ll be waiting for the next time to happen, hopefully getting some more debug info.
I`ll put it here.
It will be more clear then to say which software causes this bug.
Comment 8 Lubos Lunak 2010-02-25 16:35:20 UTC
As I said, only nvidia can handle problems with their closed-source driver. Moreover KDE can't handle X crashes anyway.
