Description Torde 2010-02-24 17:51:39 UTC
Version:            (using KDE 4.3.5)
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    Ubuntu Packages

If I go to e.g. kde-look.org and select for instance a wallpaper, I click the wallpaper name and it shows the info page about it, eg. http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Final+Destination?content=120695

If I click the screenshot from the left side, I opens a popup window with one tab open, but instead of the screenshot page, it is empty, showing a similar page as about:blank.

The same occurs with other popups (or links opening into a new window). Middle clicking or right click -> open in new tab work correctly (although it opens the link in a new tab, not a window).

I tried the popup and new tab related options from Settings->Configure Konqueror, but it didn't have any effect.

I can confirm this behaviour on two different systems (OpenSuse 11.2 with KDE 4.4.1 packages from the KDE repository and Kubuntu 9.10 that comes with KDE 4.3.x).

I suspect this is connected to the Javascript function 'window.open'. However,
I did not notice any effect of fiddling with Javascript settings. In those cases,
the middle click / right click workaround mentioned above does not necessary work.

BTW, both systems mentioned above are x64. On a 32 bit system (vanilla OpenSuse 11.2), that effect does not occur.

I just tracked the strange behavior down to a difference in konqueror profiles.

Open konqueror with a default profile, open a local directory (e.g. $HOME), and save the profile with the URL stored in the profile (option checked). Starting konqueror with this profile creates the strange behavior, which probably has nothing to do with 64/32 bit issues.

This profile works as expected (but does not start with my home directory):

[Profile]
Height=80%
Height 1200=1114
Name[de]=Webbrowser
Name=Web Browsing
RootItem=View0
ToolBarsMovable=Disabled
View0_ServiceName=konq_aboutpage
View0_ServiceType=KonqAboutPage
View0_URL=about:konqueror
Width=80%
Width 1920=1074
XMLUIFile=konqueror.rc

And this profile shows the strange behavior:

[Profile]
FullScreen=false
Name[$e]=Wrong-Webbrowser
RootItem=Tabs0
Tabs0_Children=ViewT0
Tabs0_activeChildIndex=0
ToolBarsMovable=Disabled
ViewT0_LinkedView=false
ViewT0_LockedLocation=false
ViewT0_PassiveMode=false
ViewT0_ServiceName=dolphinpart
ViewT0_ServiceType=inode/directory
ViewT0_ToggleView=false
ViewT0_URL[$e]=file://$HOME
XMLUIFile=konqueror.rc
