Compiler:          gcc (GCC) 4.4.3 20100127 (Red Hat 4.4.3-4) 
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    Fedora RPMs

If I set sorting of icons to "Unsorted" in "Folder View" activity and add new icon on desktop then all icons becomes sorted by name and aligned to grid even if disabled "Align to grid".

This steps needed to reproduce this:

1. Switch to "Folder View" activity.
2. Select "Unsorted" sorting.
3. Add some icons on desktop and place them in arbitrary order.
4. Add new icon or file on desktop.
