My main problem is that I honestly don't see why conversation windows and tabbing in a window are chosen by the program depending on the protocol used; I'm keeping in touch with contacts, and I don't really care about contacts using diffrent protocols. (There might be a very good reason for this, but I have no clue what that would be)

I would love Kopete far more if it saved me having windows open, thank you :)

Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
