Description twm3 2010-02-17 21:09:09 UTC
Version: Kmail 1.12.4 (using KDE 4.3.5)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Kmail is crashing X-server I believe in that I'm taking out of my GUI and dropped into a command line login. Karmic realizes within 15 seconds that I'm on the command line and takes me to the X Server login. When I log back in, all work in all applications have been lost. Therefore I think it is an X-server crash. This type of crash has only occurred while I'm doing something in kmail. Therefore I believe that kmail is crashing X. I don't see any type of kmail warning, crash report, etc.

About 75% of the time if I look at an emailed Google news dispatch with Chinese characters in it, I get the kmail/X-server crash. The Chinese character crash hasn't occurred in a "while" though I am still occasionally receiving the type of emails that would crash.

This morning, Kmail/X-server has crashed within five, maybe ten, minutes of each other when I tried copying (not pasting but the first step of a copy-paste). First time crash was when I tried either to hightlight or right click copy the name of an attachment in an email.

Second crash was the same however I was either highlighting text or had right-clicked copy normal email text.

Both errors are soft in that I can repeat them consistently.

Kmail is now crashing with frequency (3-5 times a day) when just going to read an email. Currently no correlation to copy/paste or Chinese characters.

Thank you for your report. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained and the code has changed sufficiently in Kmail2 so the backtraces are not really useful anymore. Should you experience the same crash in Kmail 4.8.5 or later, please open a new report for Kmail2. Thank you for your understanding
