Description Mark van Rossum 2010-02-13 01:44:41 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.4.0)
Installed from: Fedora RPMs

After upgrading to 4.4.0 new contact groups can be created but are not saved.

I create a new group in either "Personal Contacts" or in "Addressbook" (import from kde 4.3), add some addresses, But after I press Ok, I cannot find the new group. I presume it was not saved.

Great....

Hej Mark,

works fine here with a vanilla installation from SVN 4.4 branch.
Make sure your Akonadi is configured correctly and Nepomuk is setup
properly (with Virtuoso 6.1 backend).

Ciao,
Tobias

The same happens to me, after the upgrade to 4.4 in Kubuntu Karmic

I suggest to change status to confirmed
Comment 5 Mark van Rossum 2010-02-14 17:45:48 UTC
Hi Tobias

I'm sure it is fine in a vanilla install, but that is not the typical scenario...

Yes, I see problems with my akonadi setup, but the documentation to solve them is to obscure for me.

At least kaddressbook should give an error message when it can not save the changes!

Hej Mark,

but I can't fix any bug that is not caused by KAddressBook...
and I won't add any workaround for a distribution specific migration bug.

If you need help to get Akonadi up and running, join the mailinglist/forum
of your distributor, userbase.kde.org, kdepim-user@kde.org or join
the #akonadi IRC channel on freenode.org. There are many ways to get help
for your setup problem...

Ciao,
Tobias

Hi Tobias,

I can see that.
I do maintain though that an error message should be generated.
Comment 8 Tobias Koenig 2010-02-15 09:14:23 UTC
Hej Mark,

therefor we have to know _what_ actually goes wrong...
Have you tried starting Akonadi server manually in a console
via 'akonadictl start'? Have you started 'akonadiconsole' and
enabled the debugger on the 3rd tab? Are there any errors or warnings
reported?

Ciao,
Tobias

The problem relies in saving groups into a "VCard Directory" address book type. After migrating all the contacts to the new "Personal Contacts" address book type, the problem is solved.
It would be great if that advice is shown in a popup message while trying to create groups in that kind of address book.
Greetings,
Fabio

Hej,

in SVN trunk (I thought I have backported it to 4.4 branch as well...)
the 'New Group...' button is only enabled if the address book really supports
to store contact groups.

Ciao,
Tobias
