Description Luigi Toscano 2010-02-09 23:38:43 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.4.0)

People browsing subsections of the "Application" section see a big list of applications, where several programs can potentially belong to the same category (i.e. "media player", "image viewer") or to similar categories. That can be confusing, and potentially reiterate the old (wrong) idea that "KDE contains many overlapping applications".

Moreover, what would be the point of having SC, if a user can't distinguish applications that are part of SC on the project's website?

Separating the list of application (in KDE SC, not in KDE SC) is probably not the right solution. Therefore, I propose to give a visual hint that an application is part of KDE SC (a special logo,
an "emblem" over the icon, or a special label...).

The same visual hint could be put also on the application page.

+1

It is still relevant?
Comment 3 Luigi Toscano 2020-07-13 18:44:48 UTC
I don't know. I believe there is value in showing the items that are released together. It may be just a line in the metadata, but first we need to properly record the product release information somewhere (something already discussed).

With the release service that is now unbranded, I'm not sure we want to show that an application is part of the release service or extragear.
Comment 5 Luigi Toscano 2020-07-13 19:28:07 UTC
Not extragear, no. But we have a few cases of repositories released together. Not sure.
Comment 6 Christoph Feck 2020-07-28 13:26:09 UTC
Doesn't look relevant to me. We really want to treat all KDE developers equally, not mattering if they go through the hard work and do they own releases, or just use the release service.
