I tried to install OTF files via KDEs font installation program. But files with ending *otf are not showing up in the "Select file" dialog. When renaming the files to *ttf, I can install them without problems, so I think this is just a minor problem in the filemask of the open-file dialog.

This is a mimetype or KIO error. If you look at the filedialog screenshot, you can see that the file dialog has used the application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.formula-template mimetype (ODF template) as the mimetype of the .OTF fonts. This could be due to the fact that they both share the OTF extension.
