Description albert 2010-02-06 15:12:55 UTC
Version: 0.1 (using 4.3.95 (KDE 4.3.95 (KDE 4.4 RC2)), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler: cc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.31-17-generic

At every Cantor start-up I'm asked to choose which back-end I want to use even if, in the previous session, I chose a back-end and I checked the "Make this the default backend" option.
Comment 1 Alexander Rieder 2010-02-06 23:16:39 UTC
the "default backend" option (at the moment) doesn't work the way you immagine (always use the default backend), but it is only used to preselect your favourite backend in the backend choose dialog (so you can only press enter).

Maybe the concept of default backend (and the appropriate gui) needs some rethinking.

I also thought this is a bug. Can you change the behaviour so the user is not annoyed by this dialog any more?
Comment 3 Alexander Rieder 2010-09-01 01:12:19 UTC
Changing the behavior is not that easy, as with the dialog you loose the possibility to ever use a different backend again. It would require some more reworking of the ui to make this dialog go away.

ATM you can go to
Settings -> Configure Cantor -> Default Backend

Besides that it would be nice if the File menu will be reworked like this:
Instead of the first "New..." entry there should be two options:
1. "New Octave Session" (or whatever your default backend is)
2. "New Session" which popups a menu with all available backends.

The popup dialog is really annoying IMHO.

Anyway, Cantor is really going to rock so keep up the good work.

Thanks for fixing. Do we see this fix in KDE 4.6? Appearantly, this fix is not in RC2.
Comment 7 Alexander Rieder 2011-01-13 18:33:03 UTC
unfortunately, this fix was too late for 4.6, you will see it in 4.7
