Kaddressbook has this field which [at least in the German translation] is call "Search". It may be nitpicking, but as I understand it this bar is actually a filter because it shows all contacts and reduces the shown results by using the filter.

This is a standard KDE component, and in effect, typing in it does a search in your contacts.
The placeholder string "Search" is used in all KDE applications not modifying it, which are most. If you want to suggest changing this, direct the wish at kdelibs/kdeui :)
