Version: (using KDE 4.3.2) OS: Linux Installed from: Mandriva RPMs Description of problem: I try to add a shortcut on the desktop to mount a NFS share ( Right click -> create a new -> link to a device -> NFS ). It correctly detect my NFS mount point in fstab, and I can select it. Unfortunately, once done, I can't mount it. The error message is : only root user can do this. This is false as my fstab entry have the user option, and I can mount it as normal user with mount Steps to Reproduce: 1. create an NFS share entry in /etc/fstab : serveur:/share /mnt/share nfs noatime,tcp,vers=3,user,noauto 0 0 2. create an NFS shortcut on the desktop : right click -> create a new -> device link -> NFS 3. try to mount the share : it will fail 4. mount the share from CLI as normal user : mount /mnt/share 5. this will succeed

I can confirm the same issue. The bugs exists since KDE 4.0 and it used to work in KDE 3.5. There is also a interesting workaround without touching a shell or a script: You can create another link to a device where you address the local mount point(e.g. /mnt/music instead of server:/share). When clicking on that link the device will get mounted silently without error, but you can't view the mounted folder via this link. You have to click on the regular device link. So you have to have one link for just mounting and one link for just viewing, which is prettey odd. Unmounting via the regular device-link is possible, though.
seems still valid as Fabrice told on mdv bugzilla
