Version: 2.4.0 (using Devel) OS: Linux Installed from: Compiled sources Hi, While the default sorting setting in gwenview is "by name", I have always used "sort by date". When the sorting is "by name", the thumbnails in the right panel are loading quietly one by one, which is the normal behaviour. If the sorting is "by date" (whether I switch from "by name" or it is already set as default, which is my default), the whole application blocks, become unresponsive and disk activity increases dramatically ( I can actually hear the hdd sound like there are disk intensive operations). I presume that for some (good?) reason(s) gwenview reads again every file in the whole folder, cause after a time the app is back to normal again. This happens every time I change to a different folder, the time in which gwenview freezes is proportional with the number of files per folder. Thanks
I think that is because gwenview tries to read the exif data of every image for sorting by date. Looks related to #242332
I confirm this, sorting by date is extremely slow.
Bug 245245 points to the same problem

I've just tested this on gwenview from git master and cannot reproduce the issue. Can you please test and confirm if this issue is still occurring or if this bug report can be marked as resolved. I'm setting status to "needsinfo" pending your response, please change back to "reported" when you respond, thanks.
Using gwenview 20.08.2, sorting by date is pretty quick. no difference to sort by name
I definitely remember having this problem in the past - that is why I added myself to CC. But I've not been bothered by this anymore probably the whole year. So with 19.12.3 I'd say: Works_for_me!
Ok, as the previous comments say that there is no more problem, and no any newer reports for 2.5 years, I will close as Worksforme.
