Description BORGULYA Gábor 2010-01-14 18:47:15 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

CRASH DETAILS:

gabor@vm1520:~$ kmail
<unknown program name>(5828)/: Communication problem with "kmail" , it probably crashed.
Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken." "

gabor@vm1520:~$
gabor@vm1520:~$ QList: Out of memory
KCrash: Application 'kmail' crashing...

gabor@vm1520:~$

No backtrace window appears.
This happens always in the same way.
The RAM and swap are probably filled up, because Openoffice or Firefox often disappear, and the hard disk is busy for minutes.

HISTORY:

I have been using kmail happily for years, I have multiple Gigabytes of emails stored in a disconnected IMAP.
Recently a few new emails had arrived and I clicked on one to see it. Kmail crashed.
It has never been able to start since.

WHAT I TRIED:

I upgraded Kubuntu and kmail to the available newest Ubuntu packages.

I assume that this information is insufficient to fix the bug, but I am happy to follow your instructions and report the results.

Thanks -- Gabor

Hi Again! Could you help with this? I haven't been able to use kmail for months. I will be happy to follow you instructions to track back the problem. Thanks.

Thank you for your report. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained and the code has changed sufficiently in Kmail2 so the backtraces are not really useful anymore. Should you experience the same crash in Kmail 4.8.5 or later, please open a new report for Kmail2. Thank you for your understanding
