I use a Thinkpad X60s which uses a IBM Trackpoint nipple as the pointing device as opposed to a touchpad and I find that I need to apply a lot of pressure (way more than is comfortable and appropriate) to get the mouse cursor to move. It also moves very slowly when it does move. Making changes to the acceleration multiplier makes no difference.

The only way I can make my pointer device usable is to apply the following commands in a script at boot to make my mouse usable.
echo -n 240 > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/sensitivity
echo -n 140 > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/speed

There is no way to set the mouse sensitivity or speed in the mouse settings under system settings. I think this is an oversight and these setting options should be added to the mouse settings in system settings. Almost all Thinkpads have the nipple pointing device for which the sensitivity and speed setting is very necessary to fine tune the feel of the cursor movement.

Please let me know which log out puts you require if you need them for any diagnostics.
