I have found that somehow, configuration files gor randomely wrong on certain installs and fail to show the System Notifications option in the roll-out menu under system settings>notifications. as of now.. my laptop shows the option but not my desktop... any fix to this annoyance?
This kind of problems usually appears after installation issues... The entries inside SystemSettings are created from .desktop files in the filesystem. Try reinstalling the kdebase* packages. Regards
Good but reinstalling shouldn't be the fix... What would make it misconfigure according to you... - When did you noticed the missing entry ? - Do you have this file: "/usr/share/kde4/services/kcmnotify.desktop" ? - Do you have the "kdebase-runtime-data" package installed ? - Can you access the System Notifications config launching "kcmshell4 kcmnotify " from Konsole ? The System Settings entries for the different configuration modules cannot be removed by "misconfigured/modified config files". It could have dissapeared if you removed some KDE file from the filesystem, or if the file was removed by a broken package update. Regards
On my laptop everything is there and works as intended except for having kdebase-runtime-data... Ok.. I've just checked my desktop system and it's'all there too... Though you most probaby misunderstood the issue... (He problem is that I do not have the actual System Notifications entry within kcmnotify.desktop module... I have most of the currently installed programme entries but not that specific one.. I've had this bug eversince i started doing the custom install for a minimal kde system... The "KDE System Notifications" entry in the combobox list is from this file: "/usr/share/kde4/apps/kde/kde.notifyrc" which is from the "kdebase-runtime-data" package (http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?searchon=contents&keywords=kde.notifyrc&mode=&suite=karmic&arch=any) - Do you have the file "/usr/share/kde4/apps/kde/kde.notifyrc" ?
