Description Timothy Miller 2009-12-30 05:58:04 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.4)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

If I insert a blank CD or DVD, I get a popup that says "Devices recently plugged in:" and lists the blank optical disc. There are problems with it:

- There are only two options available, eject, and create K3B project. There needs to be an "ignore" or "do nothing" option.
- The eject option is clear enough, but it's not at all obvious that clicking elsewhere on the button associated with the disc will open a project in K3B. That should be made clearer.
- Really, what I want to do is just dismiss the popup, but there is no obvious way to do it. Clicking on other windows does nothing. The only way I have found to dismiss it is to click somewhere in the popup that's not associated with an action and then click in some other window. There needs to be an explicit way to immediately dismiss this popup.

Please pay more attention when you file a bugreport. This has absolutely nothing to do with kdevelop or toplevel windows.

Sorry about that. I did several searches for general UI kinds of categories, and I selected the product that looked most like what I was after, and obviously I picked the wrong one.

See below

In 4.4 (and also in 4.3.x afair) there is a label which describes the action associated with the button. Honestly, I don't see a way to make it clearer

You can just wait for the timeout (should be 5 secs) or click on the notifier icon to dismiss the popup.

Please check wish 192849 to see if we can mark this "bug" as a duplicate of that wish.
Thanks

I'm using KDE 4.3.4, so I'll wait until 4.4 comes out before further comment. Note that in 4.3.4, there is no label, and there is no timeout. The popup appears forever until you close it. I don't know what is the notifier icon. Is this in the tray on the right? Because the popup appears on the left.

In any event, even if there is a timeout, there should be an explicit close button in case it's in the way of something.

I've looked at the wishlist item you mentioned. I think this item covers what I'm after, and it's more general. Also, something as important as a means to dismiss a popup that can obscure your work shouldn't be considered a mere "wishlist" item. People use KDE to get real work done (at least I do), so a major usability problem like this shouldn't be relegated to the back burner.

/This/ is a bug, however now in 4.4 it works correctly

Hence, this part of your report is a duplicate of the other one I referred to.

It's not more general. It is against the right component of the KDE workspace.

The first part of the report works in 4.4; the second part is a duplicate.

Thanks for your clarifications
