This could be related to the glibc bug : bug 196207.
If you can repeat the crash, check this:
- Quit KMail
- Start Konsole
- Type "export QT_NO_GLIB=1" + Enter
- Type "export MALLOC_CHECK_=" + Enter
- Type "kmail" + Enter
- Use KMail and check if it crashes or not
If it doesn't crash, then it is likely to be bug 196207.

Hello! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this version of Kmail has been unmaintained for many years so I am closing this bug. Please try using the latest version of Kmail to see if your issue persists. If it does, please submit a new bug in "kmail2". Thank you!
