Description Timothy Miller 2009-12-22 21:31:44 UTC
Version: K3b 1.69.0a4 (using KDE 4.3.4)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

By default, K3b has 3 panels. On the left is a list of directories. On the right is the contents of the current directory. On the bottom is the current project.

The project panel is always too short, so I want to resize it so that it's taller (and the other panels therefore shorter). However, whenever I do that, it always snaps back to its initial size. Therefore, it's impossible to resize it.

I can confirm this bug with K3B 1.69.0 on KDE SC 4.4 Beta 1, Fedora 12.

The interesting part is that it seems the panel is set back to its original size periodically. i.e. if I resize it, sometimes it might stay there for about a second before snapping back. Sometimes it returns immediately - apparently depending on when I do the resize compared to the periodic cycling.

Just found out some interesting behaviour with the resize.
1. Right-click on the toolbars and deselect 'Lock Panels'
2. The bottom panel resizing problem remains
3. Click on the small icon on the top right corner of the project panel (left to the close button)
4. Play around resizing the panel now. There's weird behaviour - the pane seems to mov to different sizes on its on
5. With a bit of playing, you'll be able to resize the pane to your liking

Comment 6 Michał Małek 2010-01-26 17:50:09 UTC
As Michal Ziabkowski said it's probably the same problem as the one Amarok had (bug 213990)
Comment 7 Michał Małek 2010-01-26 22:31:48 UTC
Could someone try to edit $HOME/.kde4/share/config/k3brc file and remove "State" option from [main_window_settings] section? This should fix the problem.
Comment 8 Michal Ziabkowski 2010-01-26 22:43:44 UTC
Sorry to disappoint, but I've just tried that and the glitch is still there. Removing the whole [main_window_settings] section doesn't help either. Which doesn't surprise me, since I remember experiencing after purging the whole k3brc.

I can confirm this, on Gentoo again. The glitch appeared already on some 1.6* version, unfortunately I cannot recall whether it manifested itself before or after upgrade to qt-4.6. Please fix this ASAP, currently it makes k3b almost impossible to use
Comment 10 Michał Małek 2010-02-10 23:17:58 UTC
This is a Qt 4.6 issue, reported to Nokia (see here: http://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/browse/QTBUG-8107)
Comment 11 Michał Małek 2010-02-18 21:46:31 UTC
Bug fixed upstream. The fix will be included in Qt 4.6.3
Comment 12 Michal Ziabkowski 2010-02-18 22:39:19 UTC
Could you point me to this specific commit? I want to backport it, but can't seem to find it at gitorious.
Comment 13 Michał Małek 2010-02-19 09:04:02 UTC
It's in "staging" clone, see here: http://qt.gitorious.org/+qt-developers/qt/staging/commit/059be19781a22d2e41f22072152589857d0fabf9
Comment 14 Michal Ziabkowski 2010-02-19 15:44:05 UTC
Thanks. I tried it and can confirm the patch fixes the k3b problem.
