Version: (using KDE 4.3.3) Compiler: gcc version 4.4.1 20090725 (Red Hat 4.4.1-2) (GCC) OS: Linux Installed from: Fedora RPMs If my environnent is set to french-canadian (LANGfr_CA.UTF-8) I get the following error message after I click on File -> New: Originial french error message: "Impossible de démarrer le processus Impossible de créer le module d'entrée / sortie: klauncher a retourné: Unknown protocol" Translation: "Impossible to launch process Input / output module could not be created: klauncher returned: Unknown protocol" I can bypass the problem by unsetting the french canadian language environment (unset LANG) to default english.

This very much looks like a problem with your KDE installation. That error message is not found in KDevelop's sources. Does kate/kwrite work?

Hello Andreas, Tested with Kwrite (kdebase-4.3.3-3.fc11.i586) and Kate (kdesdk-4.3.3-1.fc11.i586) and the problem does not occur. Happy 2010!
I can't reproduce this here with kdevelop4 current trunk. Can you please update to Beta7 an re-test? Also can you give us a translation of the actual error message?
I compiled and installed Kdevelop4 Beta7 and I get the same error... The english translation of the error message is in the original bug description for this case... please see above. Just a quick note: For the moment we unset the french canadian language (unset LANG) and default to english to get rid of this problem. Thanks for your help...
I'm moving this to kdelibs, kdevelop doesn't do anything wrong as far as I can see (it creates a KUrl from the string "Untitled" which afaik should work). So either there's a problem in KUrl's parsing of the string, something wrong in kio that fetches an empty protocol from that or something in your system is configured to handle empty protocol via klauncher. I'm not able to say which one it is.
