I also like the idea of adding a star icon to the podcast's icon if new episodes are available. Unfortunately, this icon is hard to see if the podcast's icon has very bright colors or is colorful in general. Possible solutions are: - "illuminate" the icon, adding a black shadow and a white shadow to increase the contrast for all backgrounds (thus, only a white or a black shadow would not do it). - Make the podcast's icon partly translucent (or gray it partially out) to make the star icon more visible. - add the indicator for new episodes somewhere else, e.g., right next to the podcast's title.
Changed to bugs. Usability issues are real bugs.

on a related note, when you expand the podcast to see the individual episodes, do the icons beside the episodes need to be that big? Could there be an option to go back to the smaller icons? The dates at the end of a lot of the episode titles are cut off now. and yes, it's not exactly a mammoth task for me to drag the bar across and give more room to the media browser window but wasted space is wasted space
The icon size was deliberately increased because it was very hard to see the little blue arrow indicating if the file is downloaded. Added benefit is that the channels artwork is at least a bit recognizable. I'll keep the icon size as it is for now because in the long run the view will be completely different solving both issues. We'll use a custom delegate displaying multiple lines of text, including the published date, and separate icons.
Bart, is this still valid in Amarok 2.2.2 or current git?
It only is for some channel images that have a lot of yellow. But I can't control what images the publishers use. I've changed the size of the episode items. I guess for some people it might be to small now... We'll keep this bug open but as a wish to generally improve the podcast view with a better delegate that doesn't use icons that overlap the image.
Valid for 2.2.2 (I do not use the latest git). In fact, the icon is hardly visible for light or "noisy" icons (see, e.g., http://download.br-online.de/podcast/suess-stoff-der-woche/cast.xml), not only icons with lots of yellow. In my opinion the star is only good to see if the background is dark and homogeneous. Another, simple idea to highlight podcasts with new episodes: Print the podcast name in bold or use a different color (or both). I still think the star icon is great.
