Description bert 2009-12-20 10:45:21 UTC
Version: 2:1.0.0~rc-1ubuntu1~karmic1 (using KDE 4.3.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

I'm trying to use the create calendar tool in digikam.
Currently I'm printing it (to pdf), but it takes literally hours.
Page 1 already took 30 minutes. I am not sure what is taking so long.
I tried scaling the images to something smaller but that didn't help

Regards,

Bert

P.S this is on a new studio 1737 laptop.

Which kipi-plugins you use ?

Calendar tool use Qt4 API to print. Which version you use ?

I have the same problem. I tried it with Ubuntu 9.10 and Kubuntu 9.10 always with all patches and updates. Kubuntu with KDE 4.3.85 DigiKam 1.0.0-1ubuntu1 and KIPI 0.9.0-1ubuntu1. I tried it with small and large picture, with jpg tif and png files and only for one month. The result is always the same the process take 45 – 70 minutes and the file is about 2.8-6.5 GB (really GB!). I just managed it to open this file the picture is not available and the lines are dim / ugly.

Same problem here with Debian Sid, Kipi-plugins 1.0.0-1, qt4 4.5.3: Printing is during incredible long. Not only printing in PDF or PS but also direct output on paper. Everything else prints ok.

Cheers

Is there a process wasting CPU?
Comment 5 Hans Neukomm 2010-01-17 04:43:18 UTC
same here with opensuse 11.2 original install - fully updated

using gwenview OR digiKam

creating a calendar > print to file PDF format seems to never end on
page 1 already
but
print to file PS format seems to work normal ( approx 3 minutes for all
12 pages ) but of course its slower because a PS-calendar is about 433
MB in size vs PDF format

problem occurs each time and I had a friend repeating the problem 2 days
ago on his opensuse 11.2 install as well

until a month ago I had opensuse 11.0 and used same calendar feature
with zero problems

"top" shiows CPU usage (dual core 64 - 4GB RAM):

when using gwenview the CPU is fully (95-100%) used by gwenview
and
when using digikam to print calendar the CPU is fully used by digikam

a regular photo print to file PDF format works fine and is instantly
printed - the print to file problem occurs only in calendar-tool mode
photos used for al above testing were 1600x1200px format

Re-assigned to Kdelibs print subsystem. Sound like common problem come from background process to generate preprocessed print files.

I am having the same problem under Fedora 12. The process takes many hours to complete and creates a huge file >3GB. The file cannot be printed. When you try to get the properties of the file the result never comes back and you have to kill the window.
Comment 8 Hans Neukomm 2010-08-06 07:10:06 UTC
Many months later - the bug is still the same = NO print to PDF file of calendar possible at all !! it simply takes hours to much on a fully updated opensuse 11.2 system with KDE4

and
we have already August - too month later than usual date to offer FREE new color photo-calendars for 2011 ....

is there ANY work at all on this bug or is this bug a killer bug to end the life of the "create calendar" tool in KDE4.x ??

Still takes a long time and never completes. Fedora 28

The digiKam plugin print creator do not use since a very long time the KDEPrint framework, but QtPrint instead. Move to right digiKam section...

Hi people in this room.

Can you reproduce the PDF export from Calendar tool using last digiKam 6.2.0 ?

Here, under Linux, it's very fast to generate a PDF file.

Thanks in advance.

We need a fresh feedback on this file using this version.

The plugin creates a calendar quickly on Fedora 32. i only did it for 3 months and it went quickly. Would like to see some way to duplicate the images used without selecting the same one multiple times.

The problem can be marked solved.
