Compiler:          gcc-4.3.4 
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    Gentoo Packages

I am able to login as root,no problem. But trying as user the screen just blanks and the initial login screen returns waiting for input.
I have just rebuilt the system from scratch,so it's possible I may have missed installing something. But normally portage is pretty well on the ball with dependencies.

I have similar problem with kubuntu 9.10. Tried inside a qemu and on a dedicated host - all the same. User has encrypted home. I can successfully login as user via ssh, but it's almost impossible to login as user via kdm. If I login via ssh first (and home dir has been mounted) then I can login via kdm without any problems.

further updates have fixed this problem
