Description uetsah 2009-12-16 13:38:06 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.4)
Installed from: Unlisted Binary Package

When there is no system tray present, closing the Akregator's main window should behave as if "File >> Quit" had been clicked.

I sometimes work with a minimalistic OpenBox environment without a panel or system tray, but still use some KDE apps such as Akregator.

The problem is that when closing the Akregator window in such an environment, it seems like Akregator has properly quit, so you don't think about it anymore...
But after restarting the computer, or after logging out and in a again, and then opening Akregator again, it has mysteriously forgotten about all changes that were made the last time, for example articles being marked as "read" in the last session will show up as "unread" again.
The reason seems to be that those states are only saved upon a proper "Quit", and that never takes place in this case, because the application process was still running in the background, until it suddenly got a "kill" message from the X server...

This should not be too hard to implement. Other systray-apps such as tomboy also use this kind of quit-behaviour-based-on-systray-existence...

could this be a duplicate of bug #187323 ?
Comment 2 Dennis Murczak 2010-10-31 15:40:16 UTC
I can confirm a very similar behavior on KDE 4.5.2 + Akregator 1.6.5. When "show system tray icon" is unchecked in the options, and I close akregator via the window's close button, on the next login the window re-opens out of nowhere, and the articles Akregator had fetched on the last run are not marked as read. That's not a behavior one would expect.

This bug is so old...

Well, I can't reproduce it. RMB/Close, or the close button both quit akregator if the systray is disabled.

Paste your akregatorrc (in ~/.kde/share/config)

Ah, now I understand the report. Changing the title.
Comment 7 Christophe Marin 2011-02-16 22:06:11 UTC
Reassign to kdelibs. The issue affects all the applications I've tried. (kmail, kgpg, kwalletmanager...)
