Description BrianP 2009-12-16 00:31:12 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.4)
OS: Linux
Installed from: openSUSE RPMs

Whose harebrained idea was it to use space and backspace for next and previous picture? It sounds good but is klunky and unusable. How about left and right arrows or even up and down which don't do anything.

Did you ever use an email client. What do the up and down arrows do? How about a file browser? Picasa? An editor?

THE LEFT AND RIGHT ARROWS ARE UNIVERSALLY USED FOR NEXT AND PREVIOUS BY ALL SANE PROGRAMS. Do you enter your car through the trunk or sun roof? It could work?????

THis is a usability blunder which would make microsoft blush. :-)

Tirade Terminus,

Arrow keys work fine there with icon view.

- Did you enable NUM LOCK on your keyboard ?
- Do you know that a mouse is connected to your computer ?

this enter is invalid... Sorry

Gilles,

I don't like the way this wish is stated, but I think it is valid.
When you are in preview mode arrows keys don't go to next/previous pictures.
I would be convenient, especially when using a laptop keyboard where pgup/pgdown are not accessible easily.
As the thumbar can be vertical or horizontal, I think left and up should go to previous picture and right and down to next picture.

By the way, it would be nice if the 'enter' key would cycle through "thumbnail view" -> "preview fit to screen" -> "preview 100%" -> "thumbnail view". It is the way it is in LR and it seems to be very convenient.
Currently 'enter' key does nothing in preview mode.

Julien,
I once rewrote dumb old grep, added half a dozen slick, new features, kept all
the useful, old features and put it in our department's /usr/bin directory. My
boss used some funky, obscure options which I did not implement and I broke
his old jobs which had been running for years. He was not pleased.

I renamed it gr.pl so as not to step on anything else and all was well.

Morale of the story: don't get cutesy and don't snub existing standards. Add
new stuff all you want without breaking what's there.

Gilles,
>> Arrow keys work fine there with icon view <<
Apparently, you are on a laptop. On a real keyboard, the DEDICATED arrow keys
do absolutely nothing. This is a gross and egregious breach of standards
compared to every other image viewer on the planet, a design blunder of first
order.

I am going to Krazy Glue the door locks on your car. You will still be able to
get in through the trunk (boot?). ;-(
