Version: (using KDE 4.3.4) OS: Linux Installed from: Archlinux Packages The recent upgrade to KDE 4.3.4 broke a small bit of functionality in Konqueror. I often use Konqueror as a file manager (i.e., "konqueror --profile filemanagement") with the status bar enabled. However, when I recently upgraded to KDE 4.3.4, the status bar behavior has changed. The bar now only covers the right pane of the file manager window. i.e.: 4.3.3: http://darose.net/KonquerorStatusBar.4.3.3.png 4.3.4: http://darose.net/KonquerorStatusBar.4.3.4.png Is there a workaround/fix for this? I know it's a minor thing, but I find the lack of visual balance very annoying.
This is actually a bug-fix, see bug 100373. The status bar is per-view (try splitting the views to see what I mean), so it's logical that there isn't one under the sidebar, it was completely useless there. Feel free to reopen if you disagree, but taking into consideration what people said in bug 100373. Thanks.
Well, I guess my opinion would be that the status bar shouldn't be "per view", but rather a single status bar for the whole of konqueror. But that's obviously not an option here, as it's a lot of work and probably violates konqueror's architecture. I do understand people's opinion that it be removed from the sidebar since it never displays anything. But frankly I do disagree that this is something that should be "fixed" across the board, and so would like to re-open this issue if you don't mind. Visual aesthetics are important in a GUI, and IMO this "fix" makes the konqueror GUI more ugly. Seems to me like there's a reasonable compromise. Rather than "fixing" this across the board for everyone, instead disable the sidebar's status bar by default (to accommodate the users of bug 100373), but provide the ability to override this behavior (e.g.: as a setting in ~/.kde4/share/apps/konqueror/profiles/filemanagement) Thoughts?
