Description Maciej J . Woloszyk 2009-12-04 09:46:55 UTC
Version: 1.12.4 (using 4.3.4 (KDE 4.3.4), Gentoo)
Compiler: i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.31-rc3

I use bitmap "Console" font as a font for viewing messages in KMail (as it looks really nice on 12 inch screen). It worked fine up until KDE 4.3.3, but with 4.3.4 something changed and now while it works for plain text messages in HTML messages KMail tries to scale the font and the message view looks really bad (including "elegant" headers). I'm not really sure if it's KMail's fault as just after first start after upgrade Konsole (where I use the same font) displayed something that looked similar - badly scaled font, but after I changed the font size to 12 (it was 6 before, but it worked fine as the font was not scaled) the problem disappeared. Unfortunately changing fonts in KMail or even setting it to use fixed width font (set to "Console", 12) doesn't fix the HTML view problem.

Ok. I think I found the cause of the problem. I upgraded Qt to 4.6.0 together with KDE and it seems that the font scaling is a bug (or feature ;)) in Qt - downgrade to 4.5.3 and recompiling KDE seems to have solved the problem.

can not reproduce with KDE/4.9, kmail2, Qt-4.8.2
