Description glaubermd 2009-12-03 14:09:16 UTC
Version: 3.5 (using KDE 4.3.2)
Compiler: gcc (Debian 4.3.4-6) 4.3.4
OS: Linux
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

Using ALSA:x-phonon (as system settings/multimedia show).

When watching a full-screen flash movie (e.g at youtube.com) and using volume hotkey wheel, a progress bar is opened in the middle of screen, showing the actual volume level. This progress bar breaks full-screen video playback, but the video continues playing into browser window.

The behaviour is reproducible with iceweasel, arora, konqueror...

I second this bug but it breaks full-screen display functionnality while using virtualbox in FS mode... the transition on the volume bar makes the screen flicker every time it is sollicitated to change...

This sort of issue was adressed on the ubuntu Gnome desktop on the way libnotify drew the bubbles on the screen to prevent this sort of thing from happening...

Thanks for looking into it :)

From bug 226021:

How to reproduce:
1. enable multimedia keyboard layout or assign kmix vol up/down shortcut keys
2. play a video in flash, say here
http://www.gurumaa.com/videos/duality-of-mind.html,
3. click play and click the [x] fullscreen
4. press any of the assigned shortcut keys for kmix osd (multimedia volume up
or down or mute key); say press volume up shortcut key
5. we can observe here that the video is no-longer fullscreen.

It is reproducible. But I have not the slightest idea what can be done about it.
Comment 7 Christian Esken 2010-08-23 18:18:19 UTC
This seems to be a nice mis-feature of the Flash player. If another window pops up, it just leaves fullscreen mode.
There has been a discussion on the kde-core-devel mailing list, but I am not sure whether there will be a solution: http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-core-devel&m=127347700604936&w=2

Probably the Flash player will change its behaviour in the future.
Comment 8 kde-bugtracker 2010-08-23 18:24:01 UTC
Well, they fixed it in Ubuntu, so it must be possible.
Comment 9 Christian Esken 2010-08-23 20:02:27 UTC
Should someone find out how it is done in Ubuntu, please let me know.

There are hints that possible solutions exist, but they contain a lot of black magic: Compositing, Plasma, raw X11 calls for the icon like XCreatePixmaps and XShapeCombineMask, and some more.

Unless a standard solution goes into KDE, I don't think I will put an efort in that Flashplayer workaround. Probably you should file a bug report against Flashplayer instead.

Does this bug still exist?
Comment 12 Christian Esken 2012-08-04 09:10:15 UTC
The issue seems to not be happening any longer. I tested with various Video sites (Clipfish, Youtube, ...) in fullscreen mode, and the videos stay in fullscreen mode during and after the KMix volume popup.

I should add that my test specs:
- Ubuntu 12.04
- Firefox 14.0.1
- KDE 4.8.4
- KMix 4.1

I'm still seeing this. I'm not sure how to reopen a bug, so I filed a new one at bug 315050

kmix 4.2
Ubuntu 12.10
Firefox 18.0.2
KDE 4.9.2
